I was even mildly impressed with what a person can dig with the little back hoe attachment. I currently have the chain and boot set up to dig in 5" tile. I bought a 860 Case a couple years ago to do short branches, and repairs, it works better than I thought it would. We sold our big trencher about 15 years ago because we were "done" tiling.that was a mistake.

When everything is going right you can go several feet a minute at full depth. We use a rock chain on our clays, have rocks every now and then. Has a 3.9L cummins so that is easy to get stuff for. Some parts CNH can get but not all, I just had a hell of a time tracking down a throttle cable, finally just had to have one made and had to modify a bracket for it to work. Astec had them and now I think Toro bought it. The Case trencher line has been sold several times now and parts can be hard to find. Our 660 does well for putting 5' trenches in but be warned. I don't think anybody makes a plow big enough to stick tile through anyway. Have plows for the summer and chains for the winter when the ground is frozen. I don't know how deep your planning on going but I would go 960 if possible. Which ones would work best in my application? What kind of trencher length/width should I be looking? I see that they have several different boom types (standard/rock boom ) and chain types (cupped/rock ). Soil would generally be on the heavier side with clay and silt. What size should a guy be looking for? Is bigger simpler better in this case? Mostly would be 6 inch tile. There are the baby 460s, medium 660s, and beastly 860s.
There is a quite a range of models available and I'm not sure where to start. Lots of small, odd shaped fields so it's hard to get a custom guy in. The reason I'm going with a trencher is not enough HP for a plow.
I have a pretty good selection available in that range. Looking for one with a trencher, backhoe, and blade. Looking at some Case trenching machines for putting in tile.
